Melanie holds a Bachelor of Music degree with distinction in vocal performance from the University of Alberta. She has experience and training in a variety of musical styles, including classical, folk, rock, pop, and broadway. While pursuing her music degree, her areas of interest focused on drama, ballet, jazz dance, piano technique, ear training, and performance as a soprano soloist and choir member. Melanie’s love of drama, dance, and singing developed in her a passion for musical theatre. She has been involved with many musical theatre and drama productions as both a performer and a director. In 2011, Melanie introduced and developed the musical theatre programs at the academy, which include musical theatre group classes and the summer musical theatre group intensive.
Melanie has toured across North America with a group of musicians, performing in various venues using music and drama. She collaborated on two recordings during her year with the band and she has recorded an album of original songs.
Melanie has been a music director in various churches. As a music director she has had the opportunity to direct adult and children’s choirs and lead worship teams through vocals and piano. She has also taught Kindergarten through grade 6 music in schools in Penticton.
Melanie has experienced the unique ability that the performing arts have to motivate, inspire, and elicit positive emotions in children, teens, and adults. Her experiences lead her to expand her studies, and in 2016 she began to pursue Graduate studies in Counselling.
Melanie has been teaching private voice lessons for 15 years, and group musical theatre classes for 6 years. She is passionate about inspiring and leading her students to develop in their musicality, singing abilities, and confidence. Melanie teaches all ages and levels of ability.
